Travel Portugal and Spain
When St. Paul wrote to the Romans he said he also hoped to go to Spain after visiting them in Rome. He felt beckoned by Christ to carry his message to “the uttermost parts of the world.”
With this hope in mind, we will begin our trip by visiting Lusitania, the most western province of the ancient Roman Empire.
We will then follow an itinerary which traces the challenges faced by the early Christians in Spain and Portugal as we discuss the expansion of the church in the Byzantine Period, invasion by the Moors of N. Africa, the military opportunism during the Crusades, the intolerance of the Church during the Spanish Inquisition, international exploration in the Colonial Period and developments leading to modern Spain.
